Free Form Crochet – Abstract Ranunculus

There are over 600 species of Ranunculaceae. Members of this genus include water crowfoot, spearworts and lesser celandine, but my favorite are the buttercups.

This crochet motif is a free form abstract interpretation of the ranunculus asiaticus plentiflorus or dwarf bloomingdale. I haven’t worked up the leaves yet because it’s difficult to crochet with my arm in a cast. The first time I saw these flowers I assumed they were a type of rose, they’re that beautiful. Now I grow them in my modest garden.
