Clearly, the original pattern intends this ornament to function as a potholder, but I’m not so good with conformity. No, I wanted mine to light up, so I added a strand of battery operated fairy lights. The control switch is external and hidden in back. I also added a tassel. The longer I worked, the more it reminded me of a Chinese Lantern, so in the spirit of fortune cookies, I tucked a note inside and sealed it shut.

To make an Irish Crochet Motif or Sachet: Work two (2) hexagon and add liner, stuff with small amount of cotton or add scent and stitch together; like a pillow.  This could even be turned into a coin purse if lined and adding a button or zippered top.

  1. Crocheted in #50 threads in the appropriate colours, and starched, this could also be hung as a Christmas tree ornament; gives one ideas for Victorian ornaments.
