Clones Knot Alternative

Ever since the Clones Knot was first introduced in Clones, Ireland it has presented a challenge to even the most ardent crocheters seeking  the formation of tight symmetrical knots.

Here, a recent endeavor:

Note the loose threads at sporadic intervals; not the best scenario, but the best I could muster.

Here, a simple solution:

This is not a “Clones Knot” per se, though it looks similar.  It’s actually a popcorn st worked en l’air or ‘in the air‘.  By working a standard popcorn in a chain, rather than a stitch, it creates a popcorn knot that is pliable and that movement is what makes it appear similar to a Clones Knot.

Pattern:  Ch 4, work 4 dc in 1st ch, popcorn the sts, ch 3, sl st
